Western States Endurance Run

Saturday – Sunday, June 29 – 30, 2024 | Palisades Tahoe |

The Western States ® 100-Mile Endurance Run is the world’s oldest 100 mile trail race. The Run starts in Olympic Valley, California, near the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, and ends 100.2 miles later in Auburn, California. In the decades since its inception in 1974, Western States has come to represent one of the ultimate endurance tests in the world.

Traversing the traditional lands of the Nisenan, Washoe, and other neighboring Indigenous Peoples, the Western States Trail climbs more than 18,000 feet and descends nearly 23,000 feet before runners reach the finish at Placer High School in Auburn. In the miles between Olympic Valley and Auburn, runners experience the majestic high country of Emigrant Pass and the Granite Chief Wilderness, the crucible of the canyons of the California gold country, a memorable crossing of the ice cold waters of the Middle Fork of the American River, and finally the historic reddish brown trails that led many travelers, including gold prospectors, to Auburn.

For five decades, Western States has been home to some of the sport’s most stirring and legendary competitions. With more than 1,500 dedicated volunteers helping to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the Run has stirred the spirit of runners from all walks of life, from all over the globe.

Offering the sport’s oldest and most prized possession – a sub-24-hour silver belt buckle and a sub-30-hour bronze belt buckle – Western States remains one of the undisputed crown jewels of human endurance.

Truckee 4th of July Parade

Thursday, July 4, 2024 | 10:00am | Donner Pass Rd from near Truckee High School to Historic Downtown | REGISTER HERE

Truckee Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce that plans are underway for the Annual Truckee 4th of July Parade.

This year’s theme is Throwback Thursday!

Now that Spring is here, the Chamber is looking for businesses, clubs, associations, nonprofits, and individuals to make this the best parade yet. Get your group together and create a float that embodies what “Throwback Thursday means to you.

Truckee’s July 4th parade begins at 10:00 a.m. at the west end of Donner Pass Road at Truckee High School and progresses 1-1/2 miles down the road into historic downtown Truckee. Spectators can expect a display of creativity and community spirit as the parade features a colorful array of floats, lively performances, and artistic expressions that reflect the unique character of Truckee.

Pre-parade festivities:

Start with the Annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast put on by the Truckee Fire Protection District at Station 92 (11473 Donner Pass Road) from 7:00-10:00 a.m. The hearty breakfast of hot pancakes right off the griddle with butter and maple syrup is free, with donations appreciated – they go to Truckee Fire’s scholarship and other community programs.

Firecracker Mile Fun Run:

After your pancakes, you can get in some cardio by participating in the Firecracker Mile Fun Run, an Auburn Ski Club Training Center fundraiser. This one-mile “gravity-fed” fun event is for all ages and abilities. The race starts at 9:45 a.m., just before the parade, at US Bank on Donner Pass Road and finishes downtown in front of the judges’ stage. All are welcome to run, jog, or take a quick or casual walk to the finish line. Participants are encouraged to wear festive attire and be ready to be cheered on by the crowds.

Community Connections VIP:

Last year we rolled out new special perks with Community Connections VIP seating at the Annual 4th of July Parade hosted by the Truckee Chamber, and we’re bringing it back! Starting at 9:00 a.m., you’ll have access to comfortable seating directly in front of the train station next to the judge’s stage. And we’ve got you covered with free coffee and tasty treats to keep you fueled up, and a shade tent. From this prime spot, you’ll get the best view of the parade, allowing you to experience all the excitement up close and personal. The cost is $20 per person. Don’t miss out on this awesome opportunity—there are only 20 seats available. Visit for more details.

New this year, the Truckee Chamber is asking for volunteers to help at the Truckee 4th of July Parade. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Jessica Penman, president & CEO of the Truckee Chamber, at
