When the temperatures drop and the snow starts falling, chances are you’ll find many of our Tahoe Signature Properties staff strapping on their skis (and snowboards) and heading to the hills—the slopes of Northstar Ski Resort, to be exact. A winter day on the slopes helps clear our minds, soothe our souls, and because its such a great workout, we can afford those extra desserts at the dinner table later! If this adventure sounds as heavenly to you as it does to you, this guide to skiing at Northstar will ensure your North Lake Tahoe visit is a dream come true!

The Mountain

The entire region of Lake Tahoe can be attributed to a single volcano, Mount Pluto, that erupted over two million years ago, creating the beautiful landscape that includes the Northstar Ski Resort. Offering lessons for both skiing and snowboarding, dining, and nine different terrain parks designed for all levels of skiers, it really is close to perfect. Take a refresher course if you haven’t skied in a while, or sign up for the beginners courses—they are divided into age groups so you don’t feel like a foolish giant in a sea of 7-year-olds—and start developing skills for your newest hobby.

The season generally starts in mid-November (November 29th was opening day in 2019) and ends in mid-April, allowing skiers nearly five months of snow fun! Offering 20 ski lifts and 100 trails for skiers of all abilities, your day in the snow promises to be an exciting and exhausting one that you won’t be able to wait to repeat! Season passes can be purchased online at the Northstar website but are not available for the 2019/2020 season at this time. A day pass, however, can always be purchased at the ski shop on the mountain (this is where you will rent your equipment) or online.

When hunger pangs strike, there are five different spots on the mountain where you can chow down as you warm up. Ranging from simple sandwiches and hot cocoa to fine dining with award-winning wines, there’s a taste for every budget and palate.
