The beauty of North Lake Tahoe’s landscape is known throughout the world, offering majestic mountains standing guard over the crystal-clear waters of the lake. Stunning no matter what the season, your vacation itinerary is probably jam-packed with activities that let you spend as much time as possible outside enjoying its pleasures. But if you haven’t added any indoor attractions to your bucket list, you’re going to return home with only half the picture, something you’ll regret! And because we don’t want any of our guests to have regrets, we’ve created this guide to our favorite Tahoe indoor attractions you should see during your once in a lifetime visit to North Lake Tahoe.

Gatekeeper’s Museum, 130 W Lake Boulevard, Tahoe City

The best way to fully experience the wonders of North Lake Tahoe is by learning about its past, and this museum located inside a charming cabin will entertain your for more than a few minutes! Offering a peek inside the past that includes exhibits about the early days of the railroad that goes through here, our winter Olympics history, and even some about the black bears that make their home in the region, the Gatekeeper’s Museum is a must see for all visitors!

Hellman-Ehrman Mansion, Tahoma

Built in the early 1900s, the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion is a shining example of the lifestyles of the very wealthy people who settled on the shores of North Lake Tahoe each summer during that period. Graceful, elegant, and stunning, touring the mansion is one of our favorite ways of killing a few hours on a lazy Saturday morning. Open for tours on the half hour from 10:30 AM until 3:30 from Memorial Day until Labor Day, tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for children. Kids under 6 are free!

Vikingsholm, CA-89, Tahoma

North Lake Tahoe has always been a popular summer home for the wealthy, and Vikingsholm, considered Lake Tahoe’s hidden castle, is one of the places in which they lived. Constructed in a Scandinavian architectural style, your first sight of its stone turrets will be just as stunning as the last; everywhere you turn there’s something new to admire and fall in love with! Tours take place every 30 minutes and cost $15 for adults and $12 for children; kids under 7 years old can get in free!
