D.L. Bliss State Park, Emerald Bay & Kiva Beach
Time: ~2 hours round trip
Distance: 78 miles
Starting in Truckee, head south along Highway 89 toward D.L. Bliss State Park. This route winds along the lake’s edge, offering stunning views of Lake Tahoe and the iconic Emerald Bay. Stop at the park for hiking or picnicking and continue south to Emerald Bay State Park. In fall, the bay’s emerald-green waters contrast beautifully with the surrounding yellow and orange foliage.
Continue down the road to Kiva Beach, a lesser-known, pet friendly gem perfect for an afternoon walk with your four legged friend! The beach is quieter in the fall, so you won’t be battling crowds, making it a prime spot for photography. Be sure to adhere to any signage or posting about dogs.
South Lake Tahoe & Zephyr Cove
Time: ~2 ½ hours round trip
Distance: 89 miles
This is a great drive to take on its own and even better if you have time to add these destinations on to your Emerald Bay journey! Either way, you can enjoy panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains on your way. Once in South Lake Tahoe, try your luck at one of the casinos or explore the bustling town before heading up the coast to Zephyr Cove. Fall is the perfect time to visit Zephyr Cove Beach, as the summer crowds have dissipated, leaving behind a peaceful, secluded atmosphere.
Incline Village, Hidden Beach & Reno
Time: ~2 hours round trip
Distance: 90 miles
Drive southeast along Highway 267 to Incline Village, a charming town that embodies the relaxed Tahoe lifestyle. Enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the local cafes or take a stroll along the Tahoe East Shore Trail or hike up to the Historic Stateline Fire Lookout!
