Where to go Climbing

  • Eagle Creek Canyon
    One of Tahoe’s most popular climbing areas, Eagle Creek Canyon is located close to town along the lake’s south west shore. This area is great for beginners and expert climbers alike, with opportunities for easier top rope climbs and more challenging overhanging sport routes. Mayhem Cove and Ninety Foot Wall are two of the more popular climbing areas.
  • Lovers Leap
    Lovers Leap is great for beginners as well as intermediate climbers looking to hone their skills, Lovers Leap has many easy and moderate traditional routes, as well as a few bolted sport climbs. Located just outside of South Lake Tahoe near the community of Strawberry.
  • Donner Summit
    If you’re looking for an opportunity to challenge yourself, look no further than Donner Summit. Here you can find a variety of climbing surfaces including cracks, slabs, and extreme overhangs. Most of the climbing in Lake Tahoe is traditional, but there is sporadic sport climbing located around the area. Popular climbs include Snow Shed Wall, Space Wall, and the Peanut Gallery.
  • Cave Rock
    This once popular climbing area has now been closed to climbers because of its historical significance, though sightseers can still enjoy exploring from the ground.
