The temperatures are still low and the sun’s coming back-it’s February in the California mountains! Once described by Garfield the Cat as “the Monday of the months,” February is still a great time to visit Truckee and the Tahoe area. It’s the time to make the most of skiing season before spring creeps in. Plus, it’s the month of the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day! So while you’re up here, here are some Truckee and Tahoe events to look forward to:

Truckee and Tahoe Events: North Shore’s Best Tailgate Party!

The country gets hyped up for the Super Bowl on February 4th, and Crystal Bay Casino is throwing an event titled “North Shore’s Best Tailgate Party”-and doing their best to live up to the claim! Not exactly a tailgate (it’s not the weather for it up here!), the party is still bringing out the best of America’s biggest sporting event-food, drinks, games, and, of course, football.

Crystal Bay Casino stands on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, almost right on the border between California and Nevada. Its Crown Room doors open at 2 p.m. for the tailgate party. Plenty of activities are available for free, but the first 100 club members through the door get some extra swag! Drink specials, a taco bar, beers, and burgers will make this a party worthy of the big game.

9th Annual Ullrfest

February is an appropriate time to come together to recognize Ullr, the Scandinavian god of winter and snow-and to use him as an excuse to party! The event is in fact a fundraiser for the Diamond Peak Ski Team, but has been so much fun in the past that it’s come back yet again for a 9th year. With parades, music, and food, it’s a great time cosplay in Viking attire!

The event kicks off on February 2nd with a torchlight parade at Diamond Peak deck and Loft Bar at 6 p.m., but come early (4 to 7 p.m.) for some BBQ and drink specials! The raffle and costume contest come around at 7:30 p.m. The next day comes the dinner, dance, and silent auction at The Chateau-the occasion begins at 5:30 p.m. and goes to 11, with tickets priced at $100 per person, or $180 per couple.

Kid-O-Rama at Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows

Squaw Valley Ski Resort is setting up a special week just for the kids! Starting February 17th through the 24th, the resort will be hosting an array of events, with live music, games and crafts, and a Big Truck event that showcases all sorts of impressive machines, from snowplows to fire trucks! If you’re always looking for a way to keep your little ones entertained during your trips, this is the week to visit!
