If you’re staying with us in Truckee or are willing to make a scenic drive for some top-quality diner food from a decade’s old institution, stop on by Squeeze In, located in Historic Downtown Truckee. It’s one of the best breakfast places in Tahoe for a quick and hearty meal before exploring the area’s natural beauty, or for a relaxing lunch after a morning of hitting the slopes!
Tahoe Breakfast Served by Long Time Experts
Squeeze In has been a Truckee institution since the 70’s, when the restaurant was so small that guests would literally have to “Squeeze In” to be seated and enjoy some of the finest omelets and breakfast places in Tahoe, California had to offer. In the early 2000’s, current owners Gary and Misty Young achieved their lifelong dream of owning the restaurant, and now Squeeze In boasts multiple locations throughout California and Nevada—though the heart of the story originated right here in Truckee, and this location was even featured in an episode of “Throwdown With Bobby Flay” on the Food Network!
The diner is welcoming with a bit of a hippie vibe, and you’ll be greeted by a sign with little green aliens reading “The Best Omelets on the Planet!” The breakfast options are plentiful at Squeeze In, which is no surprise as that’s how the restaurant first gained a name for itself. You can find classic omelets, as well as daring inventions such as the Zweifel, an omelet created with peanut butter, fresh apples, applewood-smoked bacon, and bananas sautéed in butter and honey. There’s also a southwestern inspired omelet, as well as a Hawaiian style version and rarer finds, like their omelet with king crab.
The Tahoe breakfast menu extends into tried-and-true breakfast classics like pancakes and French toast, and their lunch menu offers up tacos, salads, burgers, and wraps. The drink selection ranges from a collection of house-made Bloody Mary’s to signature mimosas, and also offers up non-alcoholic delights like mochas and Audra’s Hot Chocolate. The kid’s menu is full of options, and there’s plenty of choices for vegetarians, and even for vegans and gluten free diners as well!
You can find Squeeze In in downtown Truckee, and they are open from 7 AM to 2 PM daily.

Many people come to North Lake Tahoe to take advantage of some of the most beautiful land in the world. They always find the beauty that they heard so much about, but they also find something they did not expect in countless amazing places for a meal. Squeeze In is a great example of this, as it is arguably one of the best Truckee breakfast restaurants and lunch places throughout the entire town.
A One of a Kind Place
It all started in 1974 with a 10-foot-wide building where you could find the best omelets in Truckee, California. Of course, many people wanted to enjoy the omelets, but the building was so small. The simple solution? Squeeze in! Since then, the location and the menu has grown, but the title of best omelets in the world has remained.
So let’s start with these famous omelets. It all starts with the freshest ingredients, like local eggs, of which four go into each omelet. Add homestyle fried potatoes and you have a mouthwatering plate that will always fill you up. Of course, you can build your own omelet, but you will likely want to go with one of their masterfully crafted menu favorites. Take the Spanish Flay for example—a mouthwatering tribute to Bobby Flay complete with red bell peppers, potatoes, and smoked paprika in butter, all folded with Monterey Jack cheese into parsley-seasoned eggs. The Zweifel is sure to be the most unique omelet you have ever tried, as it consists of apples and bananas sautéed in butter and honey and wrapped in an omelet with peanut butter. It sounds odd, but after one taste, you will never question the menu ever again.
Then comes one of their famous sauces like creamy mushroom or tomato basil. Inventive examples like this go on for what feels like forever on this massive menu. But you can enjoy far more than omelets, as unique eggs benedict dishes, breakfast plates, breakfast scrambles, and pancakes are also very popular at this North Lake Tahoe favorite. It is one of the top Truckee breakfast restaurants for a reason!
