Hike to New Heights This Thanksgiving in Tahoe

Tahoe is widely known for its excellent hiking trails. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker, intermediate, or just getting started, there is a trail suited to your skills. With hundreds of miles of trails and several mountain ranges, you’re practically surrounded by breathtaking views. Eagle Lake is one of the most popular hikes among locals and visitors alike. Covering two miles and reaching an elevation of 500 ft, this moderately challenging hike offers sweeping lake views and the granite landscape of Desolation Wilderness. You do not need a permit for this hike unless you plan on hiking beyond Eagle Falls into Desolation Wilderness. If you’re looking to break a serious sweat and work your leg muscles, Shirley Canyon to High Camp is a great option. This 4.2-mile hike is considered difficult and filled with plenty of steep climbs. Although Shirley Canyon to High Camp is rugged, it is worth it. Enjoy beautiful views of waterfalls, alpine lakes, and soaring trees. Once you reach the top, grab a drink or a bite to eat at one of the bars or restaurants before heading back down on the aerial tram. If you’d rather take it easy but still enjoy dramatic views, then the Agora Lakes hike is for you. This beginner hike spans 1.2 miles and reaches an elevation of 250 feet. This family-friendly hike is excellent for hiking with the kids, family photos, and an all-around good time.

Be sure to take plenty of water, sunscreen, and eye protection during your hikes.

Delicious Dining

As one of the nation’s most popular destinations, Lake Tahoe is anything but short of fabulous restaurants. If you’ve decided to skip Thanksgiving cooking this year, you’re in for a treat. There are many restaurants in the area cooking up a delicious menu. On November 24th, The Palisades hosts a delightful Thanksgiving meal at Olympic House. The dinner begins with a complimentary glass of champagne followed by a buffet featuring carving stations, charcuterie, seafood, holiday side dishes, and desserts. Alcohol is available for purchase at the bar for those 21 and older. Guests can reserve a seat at either 2:30 or 5:30, and tickets start at $90 for adults and $29 for children older than four years old. Learn more about this event here.
