Best Time to Visit Lake Tahoe?

There are four seasons in Lake Tahoe:

Summer- June 1st  to Sep 15th

Fall- Sep 16th to Dec 15th

Winter Dec 16th to March 31st

Spring April 1st to May 31st

Summers and winters are high season and Fall and Spring are low seasons, expect paying more for lodging in high seasons and considerably less in low season.

During Summer Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake’s beaches are packed, all the parks, golf courses, hiking and biking trails are open so expect crowds everywhere you go, we recommend having reservations at restaurants on weekends. Summer is also the time when you’ll see wedding parties on the lake taking pictures or having a ceremony on a beach, for more info when Lake Tahoe weddings visit our page.  June is regularly calm, the water temperature is not warm enough for swimming (at least not for everyone) so it’s a great time to visit if you don’t enjoy crowds, all the other activities are available and if you’re renting a house that has a pool it’s a great compromise to the cooler lake water. Take advantage of longer stays in June, 2-4 weeks rentals will offer deeper discounts than any other time in the summer. Starting 4th of July all the way till Labor Day Lake Tahoe and Truckee is packed with tourists, there are people sunbathing, swimming, biking, hiking, tubing, kayaking every day of the week. Right after Labor Day till Sep 15th would be a great time to enjoy the warm water and a quiet Lake Tahoe, so the decision is yours.

Fall is very nice at the Lake, the high summer temperatures starts to go down so it’s a great time to explore and be active, enjoy long hikes, bike around the lake, spend your day on the golf course or just relax on a deck reading a book, it’s peaceful and relaxing time. Some ski resorts will open at the end of November so you have couple weeks to enjoy fresh snow and pay much lower for lodging compared to winter season.

In Winter Lake Tahoe and Truckee becomes a wonderland with beautifully snow caped mountains.  All ski resorts are open, you can enjoy a day of skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snowmobiling, cross country skiing or just spend a day in one of the villages browsing the shops and restaurants. From Christmas to the end of March you can expect the stores, restaurants, shops and ski resorts to be crowded, there are people everywhere, I don’t blame them, the unsurpassed beauty of this area can’t be ignored. Make sure to check out our selection of great holiday rentals for peak enjoyment of this winter wonderland!

Spring is the second low season up here, the snow melts, everything comes to life and it’s a great time to go hiking, biking and exploring. Temperatures are great during the day to be active. Prices on North Lake Tahoe and Truckee vacation rentals are much lower so if you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life a week up in the mountains may be just what the doctors prescribed.

Lake Tahoe and Truckee are gorgeous any season, either you love summer or winter, spring or fall there will always be something for you to enjoy.
