In 2012 the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance celebrates its 40th anniversary and will feature the Riva Aquarama as the marque class of the event! Each year the Concours d’Elegance grows in popularity and in 2011, the event moved back to August which brought in the largest crowds in the event’s long history. Presented by the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation, the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance showcases a collection of nearly 100 antique wooden boats who come together at the height of summer along the docks of the Sierra Boat Company in Carnelian Bay. The show has boat owners competing for top honors in multiple categories including: Peoples’ Choice Award, Most Elegant Boat of Show, Best Engine of Show, Best Original Tahoe Boat, and other categories.
What is an Aquarama? Well, the Aquarama is a speedboat model produced by the Italian yacht builder Riva. These boats were produced from 1962 to 1996, and other Riva models are still being produced today. In celebration of the boat and the 50th anniversary of Riva, members of the Riva family will be traveling to Lake Tahoe to attend the Concours d’Elegance.
We expect this to be the largest gathering of classic Rivas in North American History. There will be fun events and activities including an opening night gala, an exhibitor barbecue and awards dinner, a ladies’ luncheon, a men’s grill, and more!
The Lake Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation has awarded more than $250,000 in grants to advance maritime skills. Last year the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation donations totaled $31,000. The 2012 Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance and Wooden Boat Week, scheduled for August 10 – 11, 2012, will be the best show to date in the long 39 year history!
