Annual Alpen Wine Fest
Date: Sunday, September 6, 2026

The annual Alpen Wine Fest is one of Labor Day Weekend’s signature events, bringing more than 30 wineries to The Village at Palisades Tahoe for an afternoon of wine tasting, live music, and a silent auction. Tasting tickets include a commemorative wine glass and all-inclusive wine tasting, with proceeds benefiting Can Do MS.
Darin Talbot and the Nick Eng Band will perform throughout the afternoon on separate stages. The festival is open to all ages, although guests must be 21 or older with valid ID to participate in the wine tasting.
Music on the Beach

Start Labor Day Weekend right on the sand with the final Music on the Beach concert of the 2026 season. The Sextones close out the 20th annual concert series with their classic soul sound, accompanied by sunset views over Lake Tahoe.
Local food vendors serve from 6–9 p.m., with craft beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase. Bring something comfortable to sit on, but leave pets and outside alcohol at home. Free secure bike valet is also available if you’d rather skip the parking hunt.

Tahoe City’s 21st season of Concerts at Commons Beach wraps up over Labor Day Weekend with The Blues Monsters, a local favorite known for bringing blues to stages around Lake Tahoe.
Pack a picnic, blanket, or low-back chair and settle in beside the lake, or grab food and drinks from the onsite vendors. Commons Beach also has a playground, making this one of the easiest live music events of the weekend for families with younger kids.
Northstar Summer Stage

Spend Sunday at Commons Beach
The final Concerts at Commons Beach performance of the summer takes place Sunday from 3–6 p.m. Families can bring a picnic, blanket, or low-back chairs, listen to The Blues Monsters, and take advantage of the playground and lakefront setting.
Explore Northstar
Northstar is another easy option with kids, particularly on Friday and Saturday when Summer Stage music runs from 5–8 p.m. Families can spend some time exploring the village before settling in for an early evening of live music.
For something completely different, Tahoe Star Tours: Dark Skies Cosmoarium takes place at Northstar at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 5. It’s a fun way to trade an evening by the lake for a night spent looking up at Tahoe’s mountain skies.

If you only have one day to experience Labor Day Weekend in North Lake Tahoe, Sunday, September 6 packs several of the weekend’s biggest events into one afternoon. The key is choosing one side of the weekend rather than trying to squeeze everything in.
Morning
Start early with breakfast and a few hours outside. Take a morning paddle, relax at the beach, or hit the trail before the afternoon events begin.

Both are worth attending, but with the events happening at almost exactly the same time, you’ll have a much better afternoon if you pick one and enjoy it rather than rushing between the two.

After the afternoon festivities, slow things down with dinner. Stay in Olympic Valley after Alpen Wine Fest, or grab a table in Tahoe City after the Commons Beach concert and finish your day with an evening by the lake.
Know Before You Go
Labor Day Weekend is one of the last big summer weekends in North Lake Tahoe, so a little advance planning can make a big difference. Popular beaches, events, restaurants, and activities will be busier than they are on a typical September weekend.
- Plan parking and transportation early. Parking can be limited around popular lakefront events and destinations. If you’re heading to Music on the Beach, free secure bike valet is available, making biking an especially convenient option in Kings Beach.
- Make reservations where you can. Buy tickets for Alpen Wine Fest in advance, reserve guided tours and rentals early, and make dinner reservations if there’s somewhere you don’t want to miss.
- Bring layers. Warm afternoons can turn into cool mountain evenings quickly, especially when you’re sitting beside the lake for an outdoor concert.
- Start lake and beach days early. An early start means calmer mornings on the water and a better chance of finding parking before popular beaches get busy.
- Give yourself extra travel time. Holiday weekend traffic can make trips between North Lake Tahoe communities take longer than expected. Rather than packing several areas into one day, group activities and events by location whenever possible.
