Enjoy delicious food on your list of rainy day activities in North Lake Tahoe

Every day promises to be an exciting adventure during your visit to North Lake Tahoe, and yes, when we say every day, we do mean the rainy ones as well! Rainy days offer the opportunity to explore the interior world of Tahoe, visiting museums, shopping, or simply enjoying comfort food meals at restaurants you wish you could put in your pocket and take home with you. As the skies darken, the clouds grow heavy, and you can just begin to smell the scent of rain meeting earth, you will stay cozy, warm, and dry when you partake in the activities in North Lake Tahoe we have gathered here for your rainy day adventures!

A Peek into the Past

When the dampness outside makes it too uncomfortable to play outdoors, spending a few hours inside exploring the history of North Lake Tahoe will make you forget all about the weather! The North Lake Tahoe Historical Society, located at 130 West Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, is our favorite way to kill some time, wandering the building aimlessly as we learn about the 1960 Olympics that came to the valley, view the baskets woven by the first settlers of North America, and study the history of Watson Cabin, a cabin built in 1908 that was, until recently, open to the public. Temporarily closed, this historic building was built by hand using only the resources gathered from the land: hand-hewn logs and local stones found in abundance throughout the woods. We can’t wait until the cabin opens again, but while it is closed, you can still explore its history and imagine what life must have been like in those far from modern times!

Our Favorite Hobby

As you go about the business of dodging raindrops, on a day where the showers are light you might find yourself dipping in and out of some of our favorite stores, participating in what we like to call our favorite hobby! Bespoke Stuff & Stories, located at 10098 Donner Pass Road in Truckee, is one store you will want to visit in rain, snow, or on a blissfully sunny day. Offering a unique selection of gifts, souvenirs, and tchotchkes that you never knew you needed until you saw them sitting on the shelves, this awesome shop is guaranteed to be your new happy place.

Fill Your Stomach, Feed Your Soul

Some of the simpler pleasures in life can also be considered the biggest luxuries, including the sound of a child’s laughter, the smell of rain, and the taste of your favorite comfort foods, most of which can be found at the Old Post Office Café in Carnelian Bay. Located less than 25 miles away from your Tahoe Signature Properties rainy day escape, this coffee shop café was once the local post office, and although it served a distinguished purpose in its earlier incarnation, we must admit we are definitely enjoying this spot much more today! Open every day of the week from 7 AM until 2 PM, the menu is filled with rainy day favorites that will fill your stomach and feed your soul, and includes breakfast burritos, burgers, and rich and creamy milkshakes! An adult beverage list offers beer, wine, mimosas, and champagne, so if it is still raining hard, order a mimosa and sit back and watch the skies change while you stay warm and dry!
