North Lake Tahoe Beach Guide

North Lake Tahoe Beach Guide

Many visitors to Lake Tahoe are familiar with what there is to see and do on the southern shore of the lake, but might be surprised to find that North Lake Tahoe has even more wonderful sights to offer on its beaches. Below, we’ve put together a brief guide to the best beaches in North Lake Tahoe. Read on to find out more!

Commons Beach

Situated among the northwestern shore of Lake Tahoe Beaches, Commons Beach Park is known for being exceptionally family-friendly. The park is home to a variety of expansive areas with lush grass, picnicking areas, and climbing rocks for children. While the North Lake Tahoe beach itself isn’t ideal for swimming due to its rocky nature (even though you can still swim anyway), it’s a scenic spot where you and your guests can absorb the beauty of Lake Tahoe.

Commons Beach is also known for hosting free live concerts during Sunday afternoons in the summer season, as well as free movie nights on the beach each Wednesday. Its close proximity to downtown Tahoe City means you can head into town and check out Tahoe City’s attractions when you’re done!

Kings Beach

Nestled on the northernmost tip of Lake Tahoe on the California side, Kings Beach is an iconic North Lake Tahoe beach that enjoys stunning views of the lake. It is also located a handy distance away from up-and-coming stores, delectable eateries, and charming street vendors peddling their souvenir wares.

Noted as the best North Lake Tahoe beach by many, Kings Beach State Recreation Area is also a great place to take children, as it is home to a playground, a half-court for basketball, picnic tables, barbeques, fishing, and a public boat ramp. Visitors can also partake in water-based sports here.

Skylandia State Beach

Spanning over the course of twenty-four acres, this beach and park provide visitors with a fantastic outlet for outdoor recreation and lovely views. The beach and park are separate from one another; pets are not allowed on the beach, but they are allowed in the park. Skylandia State Beach itself is excellent for swimming, walking on the pier, and sunbathing. Nearby, Skylandia Park has trails for hiking and biking after your time on the beach, as well as an abundance of picnic areas.
