While the wild west is known for its unique cities—many of them taking on personalities of their own—sometimes you’ve just got to get away. At times even your mountain escape town can feel like too much human interaction, which is why we’ve accumulated a list of things to do around Lake Tahoe that will truly have you feeling wild and free. We’d say you can wave to the city from your rear-view mirror, but there won’t always be a rear-view mirror to look in where we’re going…
It’s no secret that the Lake Tahoe/Truckee area is known for its water sports, so it would stand to reason that water is the perfect mode of transportation to get away from it all. Some of our favorite activities include:
Truckee River Rafting
Take a guided half-day white water river trip for an experience of a lifetime. This company will shuttle you to the water, provide all the gear, and get you riding some Class 3+ rapids before getting you safely back.
Lake Tahoe Cruises
Experience Lake Tahoe and the views of the Sierra Nevadas in a way most people never get to, aboard the M.S. Dixie II. Whether you choose a day cruise or a dinner cruise, you’ll appreciate the spectacular views of Emerald Bay, Fannette Island, and Vikingsholm Castle while someone else does the driving.
Kayak and Paddleboard Rentals
With multiple water sport outfitters located throughout the area, take your pick! Once you’ve got your gear, enjoy gliding through the water at your own pace. Find a secluded area to have a picnic and make the most of your relaxing day on the water.
Things To Do Around Lake Tahoe on Land
With multiple state parks located in the area, hiking trails are not in short supply here. Lace up your boots and get excited to breathe in that fresh mountain air as you trek your way to some amazing views.
Whether you choose to test your 4-wheel-drive vehicle on the Rubicon Trail or would rather hit the dirt trail with a mountain bike, you’re sure to have fun on this amazing playground in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
With all these adventures to fill your days, you’ll be so happy to return to your welcoming vacation rental when it’s all said and done. Keep the pajama pants handy, the fridge stocked with beverages, and the outdoor patio cleared off for maximum relaxation at the end of the day.
